Health and Safety Executive | Great Britain’s Independent Regulator for Workplace Health and Safety
Overview
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is Great Britain’s independent regulator for workplace health and safety. Our mission is to prevent death, injury and ill health at work.
We act in the public interest. We work with employers, workers, trade bodies, and other partners to reduce serious harm. We also help dutyholders understand what good looks like, so that work is safer and better managed.
Our role covers all types of workplaces. This includes offices, construction sites, factories, warehouses, farms, schools and healthcare settings. We focus on the things that cause the greatest risk. We use evidence, inspections and enforcement where needed. We also provide practical guidance to support compliance and improve standards.
We want people to be safe at work and to go home well. That means protecting workers today, while also reducing long-term risks such as exposure to harmful substances and poor working conditions.
