Description

Laing O’Rourke is looking for a Building Safety Assurance Manager to support the Brighton 3Ts Redevelopment Project.

This role is for someone with strong inspection, assurance or Building Control experience. It may suit people from a Clerk of Works, Warranty Inspection, Building Control or assurance background.

You will help Laing O’Rourke meet its statutory duties as Building Regulations Principal Contractor. This is also known as BRPC.

Your work will help make sure construction is inspected, evidenced and delivered in line with Part 2A of the Building Regulations.

This is a key role on one of the UK’s major healthcare construction programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building Safety assurance: Lead assurance activity on site.
  • BRPC duties: Support delivery teams with Building Regulations Principal Contractor duties.
  • Site inspections: Carry out regular and risk-based inspections.
  • Quality checks: Check workmanship, quality and compliance.
  • Inspection records: Produce clear, auditable inspection records.
  • Issue close-out: Make sure issues are tracked and closed.
  • Building Control: Work with Registered Building Inspectors and Building Control Approvers.
  • Joint inspections: Attend joint inspections where needed.
  • Contractor competence: Support checks on contractor competence.
  • Assurance culture: Promote a proactive approach to quality and compliance.
  • Stakeholder liaison: Work with the client, designers and contractors.
  • Role clarity: Help make responsibilities clear across project teams.
  • Improvement: Share lessons learned and support best practice.

About You

You should have:

  • Inspection experience: A background in inspection, assurance or Building Control.
  • Relevant background: Experience as a Clerk of Works, Warranty Inspector or Registered Building Inspector would be useful.
  • Building Regulations knowledge: Experience working with Building Regulations.
  • Compliance knowledge: Experience using compliance frameworks on complex construction projects.
  • Detail focus: A strong eye for quality, workmanship and records.
  • Issue spotting: The ability to identify problems early.
  • Record keeping: Experience keeping records that can stand up to external review.
  • Influencing skills: Confidence influencing site teams in a balanced way.
  • Organisation: Strong planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Fast-paced delivery: Ability to work well in a busy construction environment.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Relevant degree: Degree or equivalent in Building Surveying, Construction, Architecture or Engineering.
  • Chartered status: Chartered status, or working towards chartership, with RICS, CABE or a similar body.
