Description
Jacobs is hiring a Chartered Building Surveyor - Associate Director.
This is a full-time hybrid role. The role can be based in Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham, or Manchester. Hybrid working includes 3 days in the office.
You will join the Cities & Places business and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The work covers commercial, industrial, and public sector assets across transport, aviation, healthcare, education, residential, industrial, and mixed-use projects.
You will lead building surveying work, support clients, help grow regional services, and guide junior team members. This is a senior role for someone who can bring strong technical knowledge, sound judgement, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead surveying services: Deliver building surveying work across a range of sectors and asset types
- Manage major workstreams: Lead projects such as large condition surveys and fire safety remediation programmes
- Prepare technical documents: Review and produce specifications, tender documents, design information, and technical reports
- Support project stages: Contribute to options appraisals, heritage statements, due diligence work, and RIBA Stage 2 and 3 activity
- Work with clients: Build strong relationships through clear and timely communication
- Support growth: Help with bids, fee proposals, presentations, and business development
- Develop others: Support junior colleagues and help early-career staff build confidence and skills
- Strengthen standards: Apply sound knowledge of legislation, health and safety, and current construction requirements
About You
- Chartered: MRICS or FRICS accredited
- Experienced: Strong background in private practice or consultancy
- Knowledgeable: Good understanding of health and safety, party wall matters, building regulations, planning, the Building Safety Act, and PAS 9980
- Technically strong: Able to survey existing buildings, identify defects, and recommend repairs
- Broadly capable: Experience advising on design, construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of different building types
- Client focused: Confident working with clients and helping grow workstreams
- Supportive leader: Committed to helping junior colleagues develop, ideally with APC supervisor, counsellor, or assessor experience
- Clear communicator: Able to write strong reports and present technical advice clearly
- Desirable: Able to secure SC level clearance
