Description
Royal Mail Group is hiring a Construction Compliance Lead.
This is a nationwide role with a flexible base location. Travel will be needed.
You will lead Compliance across construction, refurbishment and estate improvement projects. You will help make sure projects are safe, legal and delivered to high technical standards.
You will act as the subject matter expert for construction Compliance. You will lead governance, quality assurance and risk control from the start of projects through to handover.
You will work with project teams, contractors and regulators. You will also help build in-house knowledge and support best practice across a national programme.
A small miracle, really. Someone has to make sure construction work is not held together by hope, vague emails and a contractor saying “that should be fine”.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Compliance: Manage the construction Compliance and governance framework across projects.
- Improve processes: Develop and update policies, procedures, templates and guidance.
- Carry out audits: Support site audits, inspections and assurance reviews.
- Check quality: Review workmanship, records, site standards and contractor performance.
- Review technical documents: Check designs, specifications, method statements, ITPs and certification.
- Manage non-conformance: Oversee root cause reviews and corrective actions.
- Check legal duties: Support Compliance with CDM 2015, Building Regulations, Fire Safety and environmental law.
- Support procurement: Review tender submissions for Compliance and competence.
- Build relationships: Work with contractors and project teams to support a strong Compliance culture.
- Train others: Deliver coaching, briefings and training to improve Compliance awareness.
- Support handover: Check that O&M files, certificates and Compliance records are complete and accurate.
About You
You will need strong construction knowledge and a clear eye for detail.
You should be confident reviewing technical documents, challenging issues and working across several projects. You will also need to influence people in a fair and practical way. Because apparently “please follow the law and the drawings” still needs stakeholder management.
You will need:
- Construction experience: Experience in construction Compliance, quality, site management or technical governance.
- Technical knowledge: Strong hands-on knowledge of construction Compliance and quality assurance.
- Legal awareness: Good knowledge of statutory frameworks linked to construction.
- Document skills: Ability to read drawings, specifications and technical submissions.
- Audit skills: Experience in audits, inspections and verification.
- Attention to detail: Ability to spot issues and follow them through.
- Communication skills: Confidence to influence, challenge and resolve issues.
- Organisation: Ability to manage work across several projects.
- Problem-solving: A practical and solution-focused approach.
- Teamwork: A collaborative style with a focus on good governance and improvement.
You will also need:
- Qualification: A construction-related degree or equivalent experience.
- Professional membership: Membership of a body such as CIOB or ICE is desirable.
- Training: CDM training is required.
- Useful training: ISO 9001 or Temporary Works training would be helpful.
- CSCS card: A valid CSCS card is essential.
- Driving licence: A full UK driving licence is essential.

Application Tips
Show clear examples of your construction Compliance work. Include audits, inspections, technical reviews, CDM 2015, Building Regulations, Fire Safety and handover documents. Make your CSCS card and full UK driving licence easy to find. Use simple examples that show how you found risks, fixed issues and improved standards, because burying the useful parts of your application is a very human way to lose a good opportunity.
