This is a senior role within Building Control. You will carry out plan checks, inspect sites, and deal with complex building regulations applications. You will also support junior staff, take part in enforcement work, and help respond to dangerous structures.
This role is a strong opportunity for an experienced Building Inspector who wants to work on complex cases, support high standards, and help shape the built environment in Haringey.
About the Role
As a Senior Registered Building Inspector, you will act in a senior position within the Building Control team.
You will provide professional building control services across a set area in and beyond the borough. The role includes plan checking, site inspections, mentoring junior staff, handling validations, and leading on complex building regulations applications.
You will also take part in enforcement work and dangerous structures inspections during working hours and on a rota for out-of-hours cover. The role includes support for sports ground safety, licensed events, and work linked to high-risk buildings and Building Safety Regulator requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out plan checks and site inspections across a range of projects.
- Lead on complex building regulations applications and technical decisions.
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior members of the team.
- Handle validations, enforcement work, and dangerous structures inspections.

- Assist with safety inspections and technical advice for sports grounds and licensed events.
- Help maintain service standards and meet key performance targets.
About You
- Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2F or above.
- Strong experience in building control and supervision of technical work.
- Good understanding of building regulations, processes, and compliance.
- Able to read and interpret plans, drawings, and technical information.
- Member of a relevant professional body such as RICS, ABE, CABE, or CIOB.
- Strong communication, report writing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Able to work under pressure, manage complex cases, and support change.
What Haringey Offers
- Salary of £59,511 to £62,766 plus a 28% market supplement.
- Hybrid working and flexible working practices.
- Up to 31 days leave plus bank holidays.
- Local government pension scheme.
- Health and wellbeing support.
- Staff discounts across leisure and culture.
How to Apply
Please apply as soon as possible, as Haringey Council may close the advert early if enough applications are received.

Application Tips
In your application, focus on clear examples of building control work, complex case handling, site inspections, plan checking, and enforcement activity. Show your registration level, technical knowledge, and experience of supervising others. It also helps to include examples of work linked to high-risk buildings, building safety, and strong decision-making, because employers remain strangely attached to evidence.
