Description

Haringey Council is looking for a Clerk of Works to support housing capital works across the borough.

This is a full-time, permanent role. You will work 36 hours per week. The role is based at Alexandra House, 10 Station Road, Wood Green, London, N22 7TR.

You will inspect works on site and make sure they meet the right standards. You will check quality, safety and compliance across construction, refurbishment and improvement works.

You will work on a range of housing capital programmes. These include planned maintenance, major works, fire safety and energy efficiency projects.

You will act on behalf of the council and provide independent assurance that works are safe, well managed and completed to specification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect works: Carry out site inspections across housing capital works.
  • Monitor quality: Check that works meet agreed standards and specifications.
  • Support compliance: Make sure works meet legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor contractors: Review contractor performance on site.
  • Identify defects: Spot poor workmanship, defects and non-compliance early.
  • Raise safety issues: Report health and safety concerns quickly.
  • Support major works: Provide site oversight on planned maintenance and major works.
  • Support fire safety works: Inspect works linked to fire safety programmes.
  • Support energy projects: Help oversee energy efficiency improvements.
  • Protect residents: Make sure works consider residents living in their homes.
  • Record findings: Keep clear and accurate inspection records.
  • Challenge standards: Raise issues with contractors and project teams in a clear way.
  • Work with teams: Liaise with project managers, contract administrators and resident liaison officers.
  • Support value for money: Help protect asset quality and make sure public money is used well.

About You

Haringey Council is looking for someone with:

  • Clerk of Works experience: Experience inspecting construction or building works on site.
  • Housing knowledge: Experience in social housing or occupied residential settings would be useful.
  • Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of building standards and specifications.
  • Construction knowledge: Knowledge of refurbishment, improvement and maintenance works.
  • Health and safety awareness: Good understanding of construction safety requirements.
  • Quality focus: A strong eye for detail and high standards.
  • Contractor confidence: Ability to challenge poor workmanship or unsafe practice.
  • Record keeping: Ability to record findings clearly and accurately.
  • Communication skills: Confidence working with contractors, project teams and residents.
  • Organisation: Ability to manage several sites and priorities.
  • Resident focus: Understanding of how works affect people living in their homes.
  • Professional judgement: Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Relevant qualification: A technical qualification or professional accreditation is desirable.
