You will deliver building surveying services across the public and private sectors. You will work on a wide range of projects, from large developments to local government frameworks.

You will carry out surveys, write reports, advise clients and support project delivery. In other words, you will do the useful technical work that stops buildings, budgets and expectations from quietly fighting in a corner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write reports: Produce clear reports on condition, defects, maintenance and improvement needs.
  • Advise clients: Give technical advice on building matters.
  • Support compliance: Advise on compliance, HSE, planning and Building Regulations.
  • Design works: Help design maintenance, refurbishment, alteration and extension works.
  • Prepare specifications: Write clear specifications for building works.
  • Deliver projects: Manage projects through to successful completion.
  • Administer contracts: Use JCT or NEC forms of contract.
  • Support sustainability: Help deliver construction-focused, innovative and sustainable solutions.
  • Build relationships: Develop strong client relationships.
  • Mentor colleagues: Support and mentor junior team members.
  • Support growth: Contribute to business development activity.
  • Work with teams: Collaborate across the Design team and wider project teams.

About You

  • Surveyor experience: Strong experience in building surveying.
  • Chartered status: Chartered membership of RICS through the Building Surveying pathway, or CIOB.
  • Relevant qualification: A degree in Building Surveying or a related subject.
  • Minimum qualification: HNC or HND as a minimum.
  • Project experience: Experience delivering projects in the public and/or private sectors.
  • Survey skills: Confidence carrying out condition surveys and defect reports.
  • Technical advice: Ability to provide clear advice to clients.
  • Contract knowledge: Experience administering JCT or NEC contracts.
  • Compliance knowledge: Understanding of compliance, HSE, planning and Building Regulations.
  • Client focus: Ability to work well with clients and build trust.
  • Team working: A collaborative approach to project delivery.
  • Mentoring skills: Ability to support junior colleagues.
  • Delivery focus: A practical approach to getting work completed to a high standard.

Application Tips

For this Surveyor role, focus on your building surveying experience, chartered status and project delivery work. Give clear examples of surveys, defect reports, client advice, specifications and contract administration. Mention your experience with JCT or NEC, public or private sector projects, compliance, HSE, planning and Building Regulations. Keep your application clear, practical and evidence-led.
