Description

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is looking for a Senior Building Control Technician.

This is a full-time role based at Kensington Town Hall in London. You will work in the borough for 3 days a week.

You will supervise key Building Control systems, processes and staff. Your work will help the service run with accuracy, transparency and confidence.

You will support compliance with ISO 9001 standards and the requirements of the Building Safety Regulator.

You will also oversee the administration of the Building Safety Levy. This includes submissions, notices, charges and enforcement where rules are not met.

This Building Control role suits someone who is organised, confident with systems and able to lead a small technical support team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of Building Control Technicians.
  • Make sure applications are managed accurately.
  • Make sure notices and certifications are handled correctly.
  • Support ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Support Building Safety Regulator requirements.
  • Oversee Building Safety Levy administration.
  • Manage levy submissions.
  • Issue statutory notices.
  • Take enforcement action where regulations are not met.
  • Oversee financial processes.
  • Make sure charges are issued and received correctly.
  • Manage phased payments for major applications.
  • Monitor customer enquiries.
  • Monitor service performance data.
  • Identify areas for service improvement.
  • Support new processes after legislative change.
  • Support the council’s response to the Grenfell Tower Public Inquiry.
  • Coordinate training linked to the Building Inspector Competence Framework.
  • Respond to Freedom of Information requests.
  • Support good governance and transparency.
  • Keep compliance at the heart of the service.

About You

  • Level 3 qualification, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience supervising staff or overseeing systems.
  • Sound understanding of the Building Control regime.
  • Experience working with quality management standards.
  • Experience in an ISO 9001 environment would be useful.
  • Strong organisation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to support team performance targets.
  • Confident communication skills.
  • Able to work with residents, contractors and internal teams.
  • Intermediate IT skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using financial systems.
  • Experience with GIS systems would be useful.
  • Able to interpret building plans, or willing to use this knowledge.
