Description
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is looking for an Assistant Building Control Surveyor.
This is a full-time role based at Kensington Town Hall in London. You will work in the borough for 3 days a week.
You will join a progressive Building Control service. The team works on varied and high-profile developments across the borough.
You will help make sure buildings are safe, compliant and built for the future. You will support technical assessments, site inspections and plan appraisals.
You will work under supervision and manage your own portfolio of development sites. You will also keep clear records and support fair, safe and consistent decisions.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out technical assessments of building work.
- Support compliance with health and safety standards.
- Support compliance with energy conservation standards.
- Manage a portfolio of development sites under supervision.
- Keep clear records for plan appraisals.
- Keep clear records for site inspections.
- Work on Class 2A and 2B developments.
- Apply the Building Act 1984.
- Apply the Building Regulations 2010.
- Support enforcement work where needed.
- Help address non-compliance.
- Liaise with architects, contractors and developers.
- Liaise with residents and external agencies.
- Give clear and professional guidance.
- Respond to complaints.
- Respond to unauthorised works.
- Support ISO 9001 quality standards.
- Help improve the Building Control service.
- Support a customer-focused and efficient service.
- Work in line with the changing regulatory framework.
About You
- Registered as a Class 1 or Class 2A/2B Building Inspector.
- Working towards professional membership with RICS, CABE, CIOB or a similar body.
- Experience preparing technical reports.
- Good knowledge of the Building Regulations 2010.
- Good knowledge of approved documents.
- Experience working in a structured quality management system.
- Accurate and consistent in your work.
- Organised and proactive.
- Able to manage your time well.
