Description
City of York Council is looking for Building Control Inspectors Class 2 and above to join its team.
This is a permanent full-time role in a city known for its heritage, growth, and quality of life. You will help deliver a customer-focused Building Control service that supports safe, compliant, and well-managed development across York.
This is a strong opportunity for a registered inspector who wants to work in a supportive team and continue to grow in Building Control.
About the Role
As a Building Control Inspector, you will help provide a quality assured and efficient service for people across York.
You will support a wide range of development work while helping make sure buildings meet the right standards. The team is focused on good service, strong technical work, and practical support for customers and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a professional and customer-focused Building Control service.
- Support compliance with building regulations and related standards.
- Work with customers, colleagues, and project teams across development activity.
- Help provide a high-quality, efficient, and well-managed service.
- Contribute to safe, compliant, and practical outcomes across the city.
- Support the council’s wider goals for growth, place, and quality of life in York.
About You
- Registered Building Control Inspector Class 2 or above.
- Strong knowledge of building regulations and current practice.
- Able to deliver a customer-focused and efficient service.
- Good communication skills and confidence working with a range of stakeholders.
- Organised, practical, and able to manage your workload well.
- Interested in growing your career and progressing through competence grades.
