Description

Peabody is looking for an experienced Building Surveyor to join its Repairs Team in Ealing.

You will manage legal disrepair cases from the first inspection through to the completion of repair work. You will diagnose defects, prepare clear reports and specify the work needed.

This role matters because disrepair can affect a resident’s home, safety and wellbeing. You will help make sure cases are handled fairly, repairs are completed on time and residents receive clear updates.

The role is permanent and full time. You will work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm.

This is a hybrid role. You will attend Ealing Gateway each Wednesday and spend a second administration day at a local hub. Regular resident visits are also required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Disrepair cases: Manage legal disrepair cases from start to finish.
  • Legal process: Follow the Housing Disrepair Protocol.
  • Property inspections: Inspect homes and diagnose building defects.
  • Evidence: Gather clear evidence to support each case.
  • Reports: Produce accurate reports and work schedules within one week.
  • Work specifications: Set out the repairs and remedial work required.
  • Cost estimates: Prepare estimates for planned repair work.
  • Contractors: Manage contractors and monitor the quality of delivery.
  • Post-inspections: Inspect completed work and approve it when satisfactory.
  • Resident contact: Keep residents informed throughout each case.
  • Records: Maintain accurate case and compliance records.
  • Service improvement: Help improve the quality and speed of the disrepair service.

About You

You should have:

  • Relevant qualification: A degree in Building Surveying, Building Pathology or a similar subject.
  • Alternative qualification: An HNC or HND in Building Surveying or Building Pathology may also be suitable.
  • Disrepair experience: Strong experience managing disrepair cases in social housing.
  • Technical knowledge: Good knowledge of building defects, construction standards and relevant law.
  • Inspection skills: Experience inspecting homes and diagnosing defects.
  • Report writing: The ability to write clear and accurate technical reports.
  • Contractor management: Experience specifying work and managing contractors.
  • Organisation: The ability to manage a busy caseload and meet deadlines.
  • Communication: Strong skills when working with residents and stakeholders.
  • Professional membership: RICS affiliation is preferred.
  • Travel: A driving licence and access to a vehicle are preferred.
