AESG is looking for a Principal Consultant to join its External Wall Advisory team in London.
This is a senior role for someone with strong experience in external wall advice, fire safety, façades, building safety and client work.

What You’ll Be Doing
As a Consultant in the External Wall Advisory team, you will lead and deliver client projects from start to finish.
You will:
- Lead projects: Manage external wall and fire safety advisory work.
- Support clients: Build strong client relationships and provide clear advice.
- Carry out surveys: Lead site surveys and prepare reports.
- Write reports: Produce FRAEW, FRA, compartmentation and fire door survey reports where needed.
- Review designs: Support inspections, design reviews and plan reviews.
- Manage quality: Deliver work to a high standard and meet deadlines.
- Support junior staff: Review work, give guidance and help with complex issues.
- Manage risk: Help protect AESG from technical and commercial risk.
- Support the director: Assist the External Wall Director with project delivery and commercial matters.
- Improve processes: Help develop better ways of working across the team.
- Support growth: Help prepare proposals and support business development.
- Keep learning: Stay up to date with fire safety and external wall guidance.
Consultant Responsibilities
This Consultant role will suit someone who can balance technical detail with client needs.
You will be expected to:
- Manage several projects at once.
- Give expert guidance to clients and colleagues.
- Lead one of the project delivery teams.
- Support team training and mentoring.
- Help maintain high client satisfaction.
- Support audit plans and internal audits where relevant.
- Follow health, safety and quality standards.
- Support AESG’s management systems and processes.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the team.
About You
You will be an experienced building safety or fire safety professional who can lead work with confidence.
You will bring:
- Strong experience: Around 6 to 10 years in a relevant field.
- Technical knowledge: Good knowledge of external wall, façade or fire safety work.
- Client skills: The ability to manage clients and explain complex points clearly.
- Project skills: Experience leading several complex projects at once.
- Leadership skills: The ability to support, mentor and guide junior staff.
- Commercial awareness: Experience with proposals, fees or winning work.
- Good judgement: The ability to assess risk and make sound decisions.
- Clear writing: Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Problem solving: Confidence dealing with complex project issues.
- Team focus: A helpful and calm approach when supporting others.
Qualifications and Experience
You should have:
- A bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, building surveying or a related subject.
- Ideally, an MSc or relevant professional qualification.
- At least 6 to 10 years of relevant experience.
- Chartered Engineer status, or be working towards it, where relevant.
