Description

Bellrock is looking for a Principal Consultant to support its High Risk Buildings work.

This is a senior fire safety role for someone who can lead complex projects, advise clients and guide technical teams. You will work on high-risk and complex buildings, helping clients meet legal duties and improve safety.

You will provide expert advice on fire safety design, risk management, safety case reports and technical documents. So yes, this is the kind of role where “attention to detail” is not just a line people paste into CVs while hoping for the best.

About Bellrock

Bellrock is a UK property services business that helps organisations manage estates in a smarter way.

Since 2003, Bellrock has used people, data and technology to improve estates, reduce cost and support better building performance. Its services cover consulting, critical engineering, intelligent asset care and technology.

Bellrock also uses digital tools such as Concerto IWMS, Mobiess and InMetriks to support data-led estate management.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Principal Consultant, you will lead fire safety consultancy work across complex and high-risk projects.

You will:

  • Lead technical work: Provide expert fire safety advice for high-risk buildings.
  • Develop safety cases: Prepare safety case reports and key technical documents.
  • Manage compliance: Support clients with notices, orders and regulatory duties.
  • Oversee projects: Guide teams and make sure work meets high standards.
  • Support quality: Help audit reports, improve processes and check outputs.
  • Mentor staff: Support fire consultants and engineers with technical growth.
  • Manage risk: Spot technical and commercial risks and help control them.
  • Lead meetings: Attend and lead client, design team and regulator meetings.
  • Support approvals: Work with Building Control, Fire and Rescue Services and other bodies.
  • Advise clients: Give clear advice through reports, meetings and presentations.
  • Support growth: Help with bids, fee proposals and new client opportunities.
  • Represent Bellrock: Attend industry events, conferences and client meetings.

Principal Consultant Responsibilities

This Principal Consultant role brings together technical leadership, client advice and team support.

You will help clients through planning, design, construction and occupation stages. You will also support the Head of Department with audits, quality control and better ways of working.

Your work will help make sure fire safety advice is clear, practical and legally sound. Apparently, “vibes-based compliance” remains frowned upon by regulators. Strange world.

People and Mentoring

You will help develop the fire safety team by:

  • Line managing, mentoring and supporting consultants and engineers.
  • Supporting professional routes such as IFE, SFPE, CEng and IEng.
  • Promoting strong technical standards.
  • Encouraging quality and continuous improvement.
  • Sharing lessons learned across projects.

Quality, Risk and Compliance

You will help protect technical quality by:

  • Following internal quality systems.
  • Supporting peer reviews.
  • Reviewing lessons learned.
  • Managing technical and commercial risk.
  • Keeping up to date with new law, guidance and sector trends.
  • Helping improve reports and consultancy processes.

Project Delivery

You will lead and oversee complex fire safety projects across several sectors.

This may include:

  • Residential buildings
  • Commercial schemes
  • Healthcare sites
  • Transport projects
  • Industrial buildings
  • Mixed-use developments
  • Other high-risk buildings

You will make sure projects are delivered on time, within scope and to the right quality standard.

Client and Stakeholder Management

You will act as a trusted adviser to clients, developers, architects and contractors.

You will build long-term client relationships and give clear, confident advice. You will also support clients in meetings with approval bodies, Building Control and Fire and Rescue Services.

About You

You will be an experienced fire safety or fire engineering professional with strong leadership skills.

You will bring:

  • Fire safety experience: Extensive experience in fire engineering or fire safety consultancy.
  • High-risk building knowledge: Experience working on complex or high-risk projects.
  • Technical skill: A strong record of fire strategies and engineered solutions.
  • Regulatory knowledge: A strong grasp of fire safety law and approval routes.
  • Building Safety Act knowledge: Understanding of the Building Safety Act and related rules.
  • Leadership skills: Experience leading teams and managing projects.
  • Client confidence: The ability to work with senior clients and regulators.
  • Clear communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Risk awareness: The ability to manage technical and commercial risk.
  • Business focus: Experience supporting bids, proposals and client growth.

Desirable Experience

It would also be useful if you have:

  • Chartered status or are working towards it, such as CEng, IEng, MIFireE or MSFPE.
  • Experience across sectors such as housing, commercial, healthcare, transport or industrial.
  • Knowledge of international codes and standards.
  • Experience providing expert witness or third-party review services.
