Description

West Berkshire Council is hiring a Compliance Surveyor in Newbury. This is a permanent full-time role for 37 hours a week. The role is based at the Council Offices on Market Street and sits in the Technical Services Team, reporting to the Technical Compliance Manager.

You will help make sure the Council’s property portfolio meets legal and safety standards. This includes inspections, record keeping, contractor coordination, and technical advice.

This role is a strong fit for someone with good surveying experience and a clear understanding of property Compliance in areas such as asbestos, fire safety, and building regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect properties: Carry out surveys and inspections to check compliance with health and safety rules
  • Check key areas: Support work linked to asbestos, fire safety, electrical safety, and other property compliance matters
  • Manage records: Keep compliance data accurate and up to date
  • Support reporting: Help prepare reports and updates for senior managers and elected members
  • Work with others: Liaise with internal teams and external contractors to arrange and oversee compliance works
  • Give advice: Provide guidance on compliance issues to colleagues and managers

About You

  • Experienced: Background as a Compliance Surveyor, ideally in a local authority or public sector setting
  • Knowledgeable: Good understanding of property compliance, including asbestos, fire safety, and building regulations
  • Strong inspector: Able to carry out detailed inspections and identify compliance issues clearly
  • Good communicator: Comfortable working with different stakeholders
  • Organised: Able to manage different priorities and work to deadlines
  • Self-motivated: Able to work independently and keep work moving
