Description

SOCOTEC is hiring a Building Inspector in Colchester. This is a full-time role in the SOCOTEC Building Control team. This is a full-time role based at The Mill, Station Road, Ardleigh, Colchester.

You will work in SOCOTEC’s Building & Real Estate division. This team supports clients across the property lifecycle. Its work includes building surveying, project management, compliance support, technical due diligence and sustainability advice.

As a Building Inspector, you will inspect construction sites at key stages. You will advise on building rules and help make sure work is safe, sound and compliant.

You will work with architects, builders, developers and other project teams. You will help protect public safety and support high standards in the built environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect sites: Carry out inspections at different stages of construction
  • Check compliance: Assess designs, materials, specifications, and fire strategies against Building Regulations and related law
  • Support enforcement: Act within your registered competency and class and help enforce compliance
  • Supervise others: Support lower-class Registered Building Inspectors and graduate trainees
  • Issue notices: Help deal with compliance breaches under the Building Safety Act 2022
  • Prepare reports: Produce inspection reports, certificates, and approval documents
  • Keep records: Maintain accurate records and clear audit trails
  • Advise clients: Provide Building Regulations advice where SOCOTEC is not acting as the Registered Building Control Approver

About You

  • Qualified: Member of RICS, CABE, or equivalent, or qualified through suitable experience
  • Registered: Registered as an RBI at an appropriate level such as 3G or 3H
  • Committed to development: Able to meet CPD requirements and keep skills up to date
  • Strong communicator: Good relationship-building skills and able to deliver strong client care
  • Technically capable: Able to review complex issues and develop practical solutions
  • Self-motivated: Comfortable working alone and as part of wider project teams
  • Up to date: Good awareness of changes in building codes, regulations, and best practice
