Description

Places for People is hiring a Compliance Manager based in Preston, PR5. This is a permanent role. You will work 36.25 hours per week. The salary is £56,000, plus benefits and bonus.

This role focuses on Fire Safety Compliance across the housing portfolio. You will lead fire safety governance, manage risk and support a specialist Compliance team.

You will make sure fire safety checks, actions, inspections, testing and maintenance are completed and recorded well. You will also review data, challenge non-compliance and help improve systems and processes.

There will be national travel as part of this role.

In short, this is a role for someone who likes evidence, standards and clear action. A rare antidote to the classic workplace spell: “We’ll monitor it and hope nothing bursts into flames.”

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead fire Compliance: Manage fire safety governance across the housing portfolio.
  • Manage risk: Identify, monitor and escalate fire safety risks.
  • Lead the team: Guide and support a small specialist Compliance team.
  • Set standards: Make sure fire safety work is accurate, timely and clear.
  • Track actions: Check that inspections, testing and maintenance are completed.
  • Validate records: Review fire safety records and check data quality.
  • Challenge issues: Act on non-compliance and support teams to improve.
  • Carry out audits: Audit work and data to check quality and accuracy.
  • Build relationships: Work with key stakeholders across the business.
  • Monitor performance: Track performance against required standards.
  • Report clearly: Produce Compliance reports for leaders and teams.
  • Develop dashboards: Help build dashboards to show performance and risk.
  • Improve systems: Support better use of digital systems, including C365.
  • Review policies: Improve fire safety policies, processes and controls.
  • Support building safety: Contribute to wider building safety work.
  • Keep learning: Stay up to date with regulation and best practice.
  • Develop the team: Support your own and your team’s professional development.

About You

You will need strong fire safety Compliance experience.

You should understand fire safety law, Fire Risk Assessment requirements and how to manage risk in a housing or landlord setting.

You will also need to lead a small team, use data well and communicate with confidence. Because apparently saying “the data is wrong” is only helpful if you can also explain how to fix it. Tragic, but fair.

You will need:

  • Fire safety knowledge: Strong knowledge of fire safety law and FRA requirements.
  • Compliance experience: Hands-on experience managing specialist fire safety Compliance.
  • Team leadership: Experience leading and supporting a small team.
  • High standards: Ability to set clear expectations and help others perform well.
  • Data skills: Ability to analyse data and check accuracy.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to use evidence to create practical solutions.
  • Stakeholder skills: Confidence working with different teams and partners.
  • Communication: Ability to challenge constructively and explain issues clearly.
  • Service focus: A focus on good service and value for money.
  • Improvement mindset: Ability to find better ways of working.

It would also be useful if you have:

  • Professional membership: Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Housing experience: Experience in housing or a similar landlord setting.
  • Systems knowledge: Knowledge of Compliance or asset management systems.
  • Qualification: A relevant degree or professional qualification.

Mention any professional membership, housing experience or relevant qualification clearly. Also include examples of how you challenge non-compliance in a practical and calm way, because “I spotted a problem” is only half the job.
