Description

Places for People is hiring a Technical Manager to lead work on legacy design, compliance and construction issues.

This role covers completed and nearly completed new homes across the South West region. You will manage technical issues from investigation through to delivery. The aim is to make sure remedial works are safe, compliant and well managed.

You will work on legacy and fire-related matters. You will also manage consultants, approvals, drawings, specifications and technical information. In other words, you get the joyful task of making sure complex building problems do not turn into expensive chaos with a roof.

You will be a key technical contact for internal teams, external consultants, authorities and customers.

Please note, you will need to attend the Eastleigh office two days per week. Applicants must live within a commutable distance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead legacy works: Manage legacy design, compliance and construction issues.
  • Manage remedial solutions: Coordinate works from investigation to delivery.
  • Oversee consultants: Manage external consultants and technical input.
  • Support compliance: Make sure works meet building regulations, fire safety standards and statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate design: Manage drawings, specifications and technical information.
  • Handle approvals: Support approvals and sectional agreements.
  • Act as technical lead: Be the main contact for legacy and fire-related matters.
  • Work with teams: Liaise with commercial, site and internal teams.
  • Manage risk: Help protect programme delivery, quality and compliance.
  • Support customers: Liaise with customers where needed.

About You

Places for People is looking for someone with:

  • Legacy issue experience: Proven experience in a housebuilding or residential development setting.
  • Technical knowledge: Strong knowledge of construction and regulatory compliance.
  • Consultant management skills: Confidence managing consultants, authorities and internal teams.
  • Problem-solving skills: Ability to own complex issues and move them to practical outcomes.
  • Good organisation: Strong attention to detail and clear control of technical information.
  • Compliance experience: Experience managing compliance documents and programmes.
  • Customer focus: Confidence liaising with customers in a clear and professional way.
  • Useful added experience: Building surveying or project management experience would be helpful.
  • Fire safety knowledge: Knowledge of fire safety, CDM regulations and construction methods would be an advantage.

What Places for People Offers

How to Apply

Apply through the Places for People application process by 11 May 2026.

You will need to upload a CV and supporting statement. Your statement should show how you meet the role requirements. Keep it clear and specific, because sadly, “I’m good at stuff” remains frowned upon as a hiring strategy.

If you have questions, email recruitment@placesforpeople.co.uk.

Places for People may close the advert early if they receive a high number of strong applications.

If you need reasonable adjustments for the application or interview process, you can request support. Places for People also offers a guaranteed interview to disabled, neurodiverse and Armed Forces candidates who meet the essential criteria.

Places for People customers who need help with their application can contact skillsemployment@placesforpeople.co.uk.

Application Tips

For this Technical Manager role, focus on your experience with legacy defects, technical compliance, fire safety and residential development. Give clear examples of issues you have investigated and resolved. Show how you manage consultants, approvals, technical drawings and risk. Use your supporting statement to match the essential criteria and keep your CV focused on relevant projects, outcomes and compliance work.
