Description
Build Insight is looking for a Registered Building Inspector to cover sites across London and Greater London.
This is a permanent, full-time role. The role is remote, with site visits across the agreed service area.
Build Insight is part of the Broste Rivers Group. It is a Registered Building Control Approver, approved by the Building Safety Regulator to deliver building control services.
The company works on a wide range of projects. These range from small domestic extensions to major commercial developments.
As a Building Inspector, you will check that building work meets Building Regulations and related legislation. You will work with clients, design teams, contractors and local authorities.
You will inspect projects within your Class 2 or Class 3 competence. You will also assess applications, keep clear records and support safe, compliant building work.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect building work: Carry out site inspections in line with Build Insight’s risk-based inspection process.
- Check compliance: Make sure projects meet Building Regulations and related legislation.
- Work within competence: Inspect projects within your Class 2 or Class 3 registration.
- Support clients: Work with clients, design teams and contractors at key project stages.
- Assess applications: Review and process building control applications.
- Support local authorities: Help with regularisation and reversion processes when required.
- Keep records: Produce accurate inspection notes and digital records.
- Follow QA systems: Maintain records in line with quality systems and the RBI Code of Conduct.
- Meet statutory timescales: Make sure key statutory periods are followed.
- Issue certificates: Issue plan certificates and final certificates where appropriate.
- Resolve breaches: Investigate and help resolve Building Regulations breaches.
- Liaise with councils: Work with local authorities on compliance and enforcement matters.
- Stay up to date: Keep informed on changes in law, guidance and construction practice.
- Attend site visits: Visit sites across London and Greater London, sometimes at short notice.
- Work safely: Take responsibility for your own safety and show awareness of others on site.
- Work at height: Climb ladders and work at height where needed.
- Support CPD: Take part in training, peer reviews and professional development.
- Improve services: Help improve the building control service.
About You
Build Insight is looking for a qualified Building Inspector with strong technical skills and good judgement.
You should have:
- Professional membership: Chartered membership with RICS, CIOB or CABE.
- BSR registration: Registration as a Class 2 or Class 3 Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator.
- Relevant qualification: Level 4 or 5 qualification in Building Control, Construction or a related subject.
- Industry experience: Strong experience in building control or construction.
- Practical judgement: The ability to make clear and sensible decisions.
- Customer focus: A professional and helpful approach to clients and stakeholders.
- Communication skills: Strong written and verbal communication.
- Stakeholder skills: Experience working with a wide range of people.
- Independent working: The ability to manage your own work.
- Team working: The ability to work well with colleagues.
- IT skills: Confident use of IT systems.
- System improvement: Ability to use systems to improve efficiency and service quality.
- BlueBeam skills: Ability to use BlueBeam software.
- Legislation knowledge: Strong knowledge of relevant building control law, guidance and documents.
- Driving licence: A full UK driving licence for site visits.
Desirable experience includes:
- Building control experience: Experience working with public or private building control bodies.
- Enforcement experience: Experience handling enforcement action or compliance issues.
- CRM knowledge: Experience using CRM systems.
