Description
SOCOTEC UK & Ireland is looking for a Graduate Façade Engineer to join its Building Envelope business unit.
This is a full-time role within the Building & Real Estate division. You will support façade fire safety work and external wall system assessments.
You will join SOCOTEC’s Façade Engineering division. The role will involve Fire Risk Appraisal reports, technical assessments, site inspections and design support.
This is a good opportunity for someone with an engineering background who wants to build a career in façade fire safety, external wall systems and building safety consultancy.
You will need to work well on your own and as part of a team. So, the usual modern miracle: independent, collaborative, technical, organised and preferably not allergic to reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare PAS 9980 reports: Support Fire Risk Appraisal reports in line with PAS 9980.
- Assess external walls: Review external wall systems and façade risks.
- Support façade fire safety: Help deliver façade fire engineering assessments.
- Carry out inspections: Attend site inspections and record findings.
- Give technical advice: Support technical advisory work for clients.
- Support design work: Assist with façade design engineering projects.
- Review third-party work: Help with third-party reviews of façade and external wall information.
- Work with teams: Collaborate with colleagues across the Façade Fire Safety team.
- Support clients: Help deliver practical, technically sound advice.
- Maintain quality: Support accurate, clear and useful technical outputs.
About You
SOCOTEC is looking for someone with:
- Engineering degree: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in an engineering discipline.
- Façade interest: An interest in façade fire safety and external wall assessments.
- Technical mindset: Ability to understand building systems and technical information.
- Fire safety awareness: Knowledge of external wall systems and relevant fire safety legislation.
- Independent working: Confidence to manage tasks and work on your own.
- Team working: Ability to collaborate with colleagues and project teams.
- Reliability: A proactive, flexible and dependable approach.
- Communication skills: Ability to explain technical points clearly.
- Learning mindset: Willingness to grow your expertise in façade engineering.
A background in façade or fire engineering would help you succeed in this role.

How to Apply
Apply online through SOCOTEC UK & Ireland.
Use your application to show your engineering background, interest in façade fire safety and ability to work with technical information.
Application Tips
For this Façade role, focus on your engineering degree, technical skills and interest in external wall systems. Mention any experience or study linked to fire safety, building design, façades, materials, construction, inspections or technical reporting. Show that you can write clearly, work with detail and learn quickly. Keep your application practical and evidence-based. The team needs someone who can assess façade risk, not someone who merely enjoys the accent mark in “façade”.
