Description

Royal Borough of Greenwich is looking for a Building Safety Project Manager to join its Housing and Safer Communities Directorate.

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Thamesmead, London. The role is 35 hours per week.

You will work within the Repairs and Investment service. This service delivers responsive repairs, capital works, major works, safety and compliance services for around 25,000 council tenants and leaseholders.

Royal Greenwich completes around 80,000 repairs each year. It will also deliver capital programmes of around £30 million this year through a range of contractors. So yes, a quiet little workload, if by “quiet” we mean “bring a spreadsheet and emotional resilience”.

The council has created a new Compliance team to give more focus and ownership to safety. This role will help lead fire safety and building safety work across council homes and buildings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage safety work: Lead key fire and building safety activity across housing stock.
  • Support compliance: Help make sure services meet legal and regulatory duties.
  • Advise on fire safety: Provide clear technical advice on fire safety matters.
  • Manage projects: Plan and deliver building safety and fire safety projects.
  • Improve systems: Help implement new IT systems for safety and compliance work.
  • Create policies: Support the development of new policies and procedures.
  • Embed good practice: Help teams follow clear and safe working processes.
  • Support residents: Communicate well with tenants, leaseholders and local communities.
  • Work with stakeholders: Liaise with elected members, colleagues and external partners.
  • Use data and records: Keep clear records to support compliance and good management.
  • Support contractors: Work with contractors where specialist services are needed.
  • Drive improvement: Find better ways to deliver safe, effective services.
  • Build team culture: Support a positive, practical and “can-do” service culture.
  • Support major programmes: Work alongside repairs, capital and major works teams.

About You

You should have:

  • Project management skills: The ability to plan, manage and deliver projects.
  • Compliance focus: A clear understanding of the importance of legislation and regulation.
  • Process skills: The ability to build and improve procedures and working practices.
  • IT skills: Strong IT skills and confidence using systems.
  • Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Resident focus: The ability to communicate well with residents.
  • Stakeholder skills: Confidence working with elected members, colleagues and partners.
  • Leadership approach: The ability to encourage innovation and better ways of working.
  • Structured thinking: A clear and organised approach to managing safety.
  • Service improvement: The drive to improve performance and outcomes.
  • Professional attitude: A calm, credible and practical approach to the role.
