Description

Ark Workplace Risk is hiring a Lead Fire Safety Consultant.

This is a hybrid contractor role based around London and the surrounding area. Some travel outside London is also needed.

You will join a team of safety professionals and support clients across the built environment. The work includes high-rise residential, commercial, and other complex buildings.

You will lead on fire strategies, fire risk assessments, building safety management systems, compartmentation surveys, and wider technical advice. This role is a strong fit for someone with deep Fire Safety experience and a practical, client-focused approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead fire strategy work: Carry out retrospective fire strategies for complex buildings
  • Complete risk assessments: Deliver complex Type 1, 2, 3, and 4 fire risk assessments in residential and commercial buildings
  • Support building safety systems: Review and create building safety management systems
  • Undertake surveys: Carry out complex compartmentation surveys and provide recommendations
  • Develop management systems: Help build corporate fire safety management systems across client portfolios
  • Give expert advice: Act as an internal source of fire safety expertise for other consultants
  • Support difficult cases: Help clients deal with contentious matters, including fire brigade interventions
  • Improve site systems: Implement fire safety advice, site management systems, audits, and reviews
  • Create plans: Design fire management plans for existing buildings
  • Work across projects: Help develop fire safety solutions on a wide range of sites
  • Support façade assurance: Monitor external wall and façade works to help confirm remedial work is assured
  • Collaborate: Work with colleagues across Ark to support new work and shared learning

About You

  • Experienced: At least 5 years as a Fire Safety Consultant in the built environment
  • Technically strong: Strong background in fire strategies, fire management plans, and complex fire risk assessments in high-risk commercial and residential buildings
  • Knowledgeable: Good understanding of UK Building Regulations, including Approved Document B
  • Standards aware: Working knowledge of standards such as BS 9991, BS 9999, BS 9997, and PAS 9980
  • Strong writer: Able to produce clear, forensic, and practical reports
  • Good with people: Strong interpersonal skills and confident with clients
  • Committed to learning: Ongoing focus on CPD

Qualifications and memberships:

  • Recognised membership: Such as GIFireE, MIFireE, or MIFSM
  • Advantageous: EngTech
  • Preferred level: Ideally on Tier 3 IFSM, FRACS, or IFE fire risk assessor register, or working at that level
  • Qualification: Fire safety or fire engineering diploma at Level 4, working towards Level 5
