Description
Sovereign Network Group is hiring a Safety and Compliance Specialist - Fire.
This is a full-time role. The salary is £60,000 to £68,000 per year.
The role can be based in Basingstoke, Hertford, Wembley or Blandford Forum.
You will act as the landlord’s authorised person for fire safety. You will help make sure SNG meets its landlord duties and follows fire safety law, regulations and guidance.
You will use your fire safety knowledge to manage risk. This includes passive and active fire measures, fire risk assessments, fire doors, data, contracts and remedial actions.
SNG is the 6th largest housing association by size. It has almost 3,000 colleagues, over 85,000 homes and more than 200,000 customers across London and the South.
So yes, this is not a tiny “keep an eye on things” role. This is actual Safety and Compliance work, with homes, residents and legal duties attached. Very inconvenient for anyone who likes vague job titles and zero accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead fire safety compliance: Help make sure SNG meets its fire safety legal and regulatory duties.
- Act as authorised person: Provide competent fire safety advice and guidance.
- Support residents: Help deliver safe and timely outcomes for customers.
- Manage fire activities: Provide strong oversight across fire-related work.
- Liaise with the fire authority: Act as the main contact for the Primary Fire Authority.
- Lead FRA programmes: Ensure the fire risk assessment programme is run on a risk-based basis.
- Use key standards: Support work in line with PAS9980, PAS79 and PAS792 requirements.
- Manage REG38 sign off: Oversee the REG38 process.
- Oversee fire door checks: Make sure pre-occupation fire door assessments are done well and on time.
- Track FRA actions: Ensure actions and upgrades from fire risk assessments are progressed and recorded.
- Monitor changes: Identify changes in law, regulation or guidance that may affect SNG.
- Escalate risks: Raise issues with the Building Safety Compliance Fire Manager.
- Recover compliance: Identify and escalate non-compliance and suggest practical solutions.
- Manage contracts: Support strong contract management and issue resolution.
- Check data quality: Monitor data, spot issues and support accurate records.
- Protect data: Help protect data from misuse and loss.
- Meet deadlines: Deliver work through your own actions and through teams.
About You
You will need strong fire safety knowledge and experience in housing.
You should be a clear communicator. You will need to work with teams, subject matter experts and key stakeholders. You should be able to manage risk, challenge poor practice and keep work moving.
You will need:
- Fire qualification: Level 4 qualification in Fire Safety.
- Housing experience: Experience leading fire subject matter experts in the housing sector.
- Professional membership: Membership of IFE, IFSM or an equivalent body.
- Legal knowledge: Up-to-date knowledge of fire safety law and building regulations.
- FRA knowledge: Practical fire risk assessment award, such as IFE or CS Todd.
- Data skills: Ability to monitor data quality and identify issues.
- Risk assessment skills: Ability to validate issues, assess impact and escalate when needed.
- Data protection: Experience protecting and monitoring data against misuse and loss.
- Delivery focus: Experience working to deadlines and meeting targets.
- Team influence: Ability to get work done through your own work and through teams.
- Communication: Ability to explain fire safety and compliance matters clearly.
Please note that a Basic DBS check will be completed for the successful candidate.

How to Apply
Apply through the Sovereign Network Group careers site.
The advert lists an end date of 13 May 2026.
Make sure your application shows your fire safety experience, housing sector knowledge and Safety and Compliance work.
You should also include your Level 4 Fire Safety qualification, professional membership and practical fire risk assessment experience.
Application Tips
Use clear examples from fire safety and housing compliance work. Show how you have led fire specialists, managed FRA programmes, tracked actions, handled data and escalated risk. Mention your Level 4 Fire Safety qualification and IFE or IFSM membership clearly. Keep your examples short, direct and evidence based, because hiring teams should not need a treasure map to find your strongest points.
