Description
About the Role
Peabody is hiring a Fire Risk Assessor to join its Fire Safety Team.
This is a permanent, full-time role based in London. You will work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 17:00. The salary is £55,000.
You will help keep residents, visitors and buildings safe. You will carry out fire risk assessments across Peabody’s homes and buildings.
You will assess risks, write clear reports and help teams plan the right actions. You will also support Peabody’s wider Fire Safety, compliance and building safety work.
This is a key role in the fire risk assessment programme. It needs good judgement, clear writing and sound technical knowledge. So, mercifully, not a role for vague phrases like “monitoring the situation” while everyone hopes the problem disappears.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out assessments: Complete fire risk assessments across a nominated portfolio.
- Review fire precautions: Check existing fire safety measures and identify risks.
- Write reports: Produce clear, timely and practical FRA reports.
- Upload records: Make sure reports are added to systems accurately and on time.
- Support action planning: Help delivery teams understand and manage key risks.
- Manage workload: Plan and prioritise your own assessments.
- Use FRA systems: Work with fire risk assessment systems and records.
- Work with teams: Liaise with operational teams to resolve issues.
- Advise customers: Give clear and proportionate Fire Safety advice.
- Support quality: Share good practice and learning with the wider team.
- Improve the service: Help strengthen Peabody’s Fire Safety culture.
- Develop professionally: Continue to grow your skills and professional standing.
About You
You will need to be an experienced and competent Fire Risk Assessor.
You should be confident working on your own. You will need to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality reports to agreed timescales.
You must be able to explain Fire Safety risks in a clear way. This includes speaking to both technical and non-technical audiences. Because, somehow, “this is unsafe” still needs to be translated into several workplace dialects.
You will need:
- FRA experience: Experience carrying out fire risk assessments in residential buildings.
- Evidence of work: A portfolio or clear evidence from previous roles.
- Technical skill: Ability to identify, record and explain fire risks.
- Report writing: Strong written skills and attention to detail.
- Analytical skills: Ability to assess risk and make sound recommendations.
- Independent working: Confidence to manage your own workload.
- Teamwork: Ability to work as part of a strong Fire Safety team.
- Qualification: NEBOSH Fire Safety, or equivalent.
- Competence level: Minimum Tier 2 Fire Risk Assessor level.
- Specialist training: Evidence of suitable training, experience or third-party certification.
- Professional membership: Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers, or a clear plan to work towards it.
A driving licence is useful but not essential, as public transport will normally be used.
Please note that Peabody does not offer visa sponsorship for this role.
