Description

AESG is looking for a Building Surveyor to join its London team.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced Surveyor who wants to work across building safety, inspections, reporting, and technical consultancy. You will support clients on a wide range of projects and work with a multi-disciplinary team in a growing business.

The role includes both site-based and office-based work, with a focus on surveys, technical reviews, reporting, and quality.

About the Role

As Building Surveyor, you will deliver consultancy and surveying services to AESG clients. You will carry out site inspections, review technical documents, prepare reports, and support project delivery across a range of building safety and compliance work.

You will also work with internal teams, support quality checks, and help develop technical knowledge across the business. This role suits someone who is organised, technically strong, and confident working across different project stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out site surveys on new-build and existing buildings.
  • Inspect passive and active fire safety systems during installation.
  • Complete compartmentation surveys and fire stopping inspections.
  • Support surveys linked to Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEW), with training provided where needed.
  • Use construction software for site surveys and reporting.
  • Review documents such as O&M manuals, fire strategies, drawings, FRAs, FRAEWs, and certificates.
  • Prepare clear technical reports based on site visits and document reviews.
  • Present findings to senior colleagues and support internal discussions.
  • Carry out quality checks on team deliverables.
  • Prepare briefing documents for intrusive surveys.
  • Draft building safety case reports and contribute to FRAEW reports.
  • Review building regulations, approved documents, and British Standards.
  • Support research and knowledge sharing on building safety topics.
  • Assist with project delivery and support business development activity where needed.

About You

  • Degree or master’s in engineering, Building Surveying, or a related subject.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong experience in surveying, inspections, or technical consultancy.
  • Good understanding of building regulations, guidance, and relevant standards.
  • Able to prepare clear, accurate, and well-structured reports.
  • Comfortable reviewing technical documents and site information.
  • Good communication skills and confidence working with colleagues and clients.
  • Strong planning, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to support junior team members and work well across teams.
  • Positive and practical approach to project delivery.

What AESG Offers

  • Full-time role in London.
  • The chance to work in a specialist consultancy with an international presence.
  • Exposure to a wide range of projects across building safety and advisory work.
  • A collaborative team environment with support for technical development.
  • Opportunities to grow your skills and build your career in consultancy.

Application Tips

In your application, focus on clear examples of surveying work, site inspections, report writing, and technical document review. Show the types of projects you have worked on, your knowledge of regulations and standards, and any experience linked to fire safety, compartmentation, fire stopping, FRAEW, or building safety reporting.
