Description

The London Borough of Harrow is looking for a Building Control Technical Support Officer.

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Harrow. You will work 36 hours per week.

You will play a key role in the Technical Support Team for Building Control. You will be the first point of contact for customers, visitors, internal teams and external partners.

You will provide technical and administrative support to help the Building Control service run well. This includes supporting applications, fee quotations, payments, complaints, records and statutory processes.

You will also help collect the Building Safety Levy and support daily admin linked to building control applications. So yes, you will be helping stop the machinery of regulation from collapsing into a small pile of forms and sighs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Building Control: Help the service run smoothly and in line with regulations.
  • Be first point of contact: Support customers, visitors, internal teams and external partners.
  • Handle applications: Support the submission, progress and enforcement of building control applications.
  • Provide fee quotations: Calculate and explain fees for customers.
  • Manage payments: Process payments and invoices linked to applications and related work.
  • Support BSR work: Help with Building Safety Regulator related processes.
  • Collect the Building Safety Levy: Support levy collection and related admin.
  • Manage complaints: Help deal with customer complaints in a clear and professional way.
  • Support reversions: Help process reversion cases where needed.
  • Maintain records: Keep application records accurate and up to date.
  • Support managers: Work closely with Building Control Managers.
  • Check standards: Help make sure admin processes meet current regulatory rules.
  • Audit KPIs: Assist with checking Key Performance Indicators.
  • Support improvement: Give feedback to the Building Safety Regulator where required.
  • Promote the service: Help deliver marketing work for the Building Control service.

About You

Harrow Council is looking for someone with:

  • Building Control knowledge: A strong understanding of the role and purpose of a Building Control department.
  • Relevant experience: Experience of working in Building Control.
  • Application knowledge: Experience with different types of Building Control applications.
  • BSR understanding: Knowledge of Building Safety Regulator functions and requirements.
  • Technical admin skills: Strong knowledge of Building Control admin practices and procedures.
  • Legislation awareness: Understanding of current Building Control legislation.
  • Fee knowledge: Ability to calculate fee quotations for customers.
  • Finance experience: Experience processing payments and invoices.
  • Partner working: Ability to liaise with finance teams, managers and external contacts.
  • Customer service skills: Confidence dealing with enquiries and complaints.
  • Marketing experience: Experience promoting Building Control services and suggesting new ideas.
  • Team working: Ability to work well within a Technical Support Officer team.
  • Attention to detail: Strong accuracy when handling records, fees and applications.
