Description

Onward Homes is looking for a Fire Safety Project Officer to join its Landlord Compliance and Delivery team.

This is a permanent role based in Merseyside. The salary is £47,850 per annum. The role sits within the Property function.

You will manage fire safety work packages across the region. You will also update electronic record systems, support compliance and help reduce risk for customers, colleagues and third parties.

The role requires attendance at Onward offices 2 days per week. You will also travel across neighbourhoods and buildings in the North West to deliver fire safety project work and represent Onward at Fire and Rescue Service inspections.

In short, this is a practical fire safety role with project, data, contractor and site work. Not just “update the spreadsheet and hope the building behaves”. Buildings, tragically, remain uncooperative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Fire Safety works: Deliver fire safety work packages across the region.
  • Support compliance: Help make sure Onward meets regulatory duties.
  • Commission equipment: Ensure active fire equipment is commissioned correctly.
  • Manage testing: Make sure testing and certification are recorded and validated.
  • Support handover: Prepare records before handover to the Compliance Team for cyclical maintenance.
  • Manage contracts: Oversee fire safety contracts and contractor delivery.
  • Monitor progress: Track works, resolve issues and report updates.
  • Check quality: Provide on-site quality controls for project work.
  • Manage budgets: Support financial management of fire safety projects.
  • Maintain data: Keep fire safety compliance data accurate and up to date.
  • Record works: Ensure testing, inspection and remedial works are properly logged.
  • Measure performance: Use KPIs and management information to track delivery.
  • Support reports: Help prepare reports on fire safety contract performance.
  • Work with teams: Support repairs, maintenance, contractors and internal colleagues.
  • Support procurement: Contribute to landlord compliance and procurement strategy.
  • Manage health and safety: Support legal compliance for fire-related activity in the region.
  • Deliver training: Help provide fire safety training to colleagues.

About You

Onward Homes is looking for someone with:

  • Fire Safety project experience: A track record of managing fire safety investment programmes.
  • Programme delivery skills: Experience delivering work packages to a high standard.
  • Data skills: Experience using complex data to support decisions.
  • Construction knowledge: Knowledge of building construction, standards and planning rules.
  • Regulatory knowledge: Understanding of regulatory standards and leasehold law.
  • Housing systems knowledge: Knowledge of core housing systems and fire safety management systems.
  • Contract knowledge: Understanding of construction contracts and contract administration.
  • Financial awareness: Commercial understanding of value for money in construction.
  • CDM knowledge: Understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Site safety knowledge: Awareness of on-site health and safety.
  • Communication skills: Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Stakeholder skills: Experience managing internal and external relationships.
  • IT skills: Intermediate Microsoft Office skills would be useful.
