Description
Haringey Council is looking for a skilled Fire Safety Surveyor to support the safety, compliance and wellbeing of residents and buildings across its portfolio. This role sits within a dedicated and growing Fire Safety function. You will work with experienced fire safety staff, including a Fire Safety Manager, Fire Risk Assessors and other Surveyors.
This role matters because safe homes and buildings need clear inspections, strong records and prompt action. You will carry out fire safety inspections, support risk assessment programmes and give clear guidance. You will also work with internal teams and contractors to help improve fire safety standards across Haringey.
Key Responsibilities
- Fire safety inspections: Carry out fire safety surveys and inspections across housing or similar built environments.
- Risk assessment support: Support fire risk assessment programmes and related follow-up work.
- Compliance: Help make sure buildings meet relevant fire safety law, guidance and safety standards.
- Technical advice: Give clear fire safety guidance to internal teams and contractors.
- FRA actions: Interpret fire risk assessments and help make sure the right action is taken.
- Resident safety: Support work that protects residents and improves building safety.
- Contractor working: Work with contractors to support effective delivery of fire safety measures.
- Stakeholder engagement: Communicate clearly with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Continuous improvement: Help improve fire safety processes, delivery and standards.
- Workload management: Manage your workload in a compliance-led environment.
About You
You should have:
- Fire Safety experience: Hands-on experience carrying out fire safety surveys or inspections.
- Built environment knowledge: Experience working in housing or a similar built environment.
- Legislation knowledge: A confident understanding of relevant fire safety law and best practice.
- FRA knowledge: The ability to read fire risk assessments and take suitable action.
- Technical skills: Strong fire safety knowledge and a practical approach to solving problems.
- Communication skills: The ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- Organisation skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise work.
- Compliance focus: A clear commitment to high safety standards.
- Resident focus: A clear understanding of how fire safety work protects people and property.
- Relevant qualification: A qualification in fire safety or a related discipline.
