Description

WATMOS Community Homes is looking for a Building Safety Officer to help keep its homes and communities safe.

You will work closely with the Building Safety Manager. Together, you will support fire, asbestos, water safety and wider compliance work across the housing portfolio.

This role is important because strong Building Safety depends on clear checks, accurate records and prompt action. You will monitor safety actions, inspect properties and oversee contractor work. You will also keep residents informed about work that affects their homes.

The role is based in Walsall, West Midlands, with hybrid working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building Safety: Support safety and compliance work across WATMOS homes.
  • Fire safety: Help monitor fire safety actions and related work.
  • Asbestos safety: Support asbestos management and compliance activity.
  • Water safety: Help manage water safety checks and actions.
  • Contractors: Oversee contractor work and monitor service quality.
  • Inspections: Carry out property and safety inspections.
  • Records: Keep accurate and up-to-date compliance information.
  • Safety actions: Track actions and help make sure work is completed.
  • Resident contact: Keep residents informed about safety work.
  • Team support: Work closely with the Building Safety Manager and other teams.

About You

You should have:

  • Legal knowledge: Good knowledge of relevant housing and safety law.
  • Health and safety knowledge: A clear understanding of health and safety duties.
  • Compliance experience: An understanding of what supports strong compliance.
  • Organisation: The ability to plan work and manage several priorities.
  • Stakeholder skills: Confidence working with residents, contractors and colleagues.
  • Customer focus: A commitment to clear and helpful services.
  • IT skills: Strong IT skills and confidence using digital systems.
  • Communication: The ability to explain issues clearly to people at all levels.
  • Teamwork: A positive and professional approach to working with others.
  • Attention to detail: The ability to keep clear and accurate records.
