Description
Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing is looking for a Senior Surveyor to join its Property Directorate.
This is a full-time, 6-month fixed-term role based in Clapham Park, London. The role is 37.5 hours per week.
You will lead a small team of surveyors. You will also give advice on complex repairs, structural issues and major defects.
This role is suited to an experienced Surveyor who can manage people while keeping strong technical surveying skills. You will help make sure homes are safe, secure and well maintained.
You will lead work on non-routine repairs, damp and mould issues, and ad hoc planned replacements. You will work with other teams to support residents, improve services and protect the housing stock.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a small team: Manage and support surveyors within the Property Directorate.
- Support complex cases: Help the team diagnose and resolve difficult building faults.
- Manage casework: Oversee a small caseload, including damp and mould, insurance works and specialist repairs.
- Diagnose defects: Use building pathology knowledge to identify repair needs.
- Apply HHSRS: Identify and categorise Category 1 and Category 2 hazards.
- Keep systems updated: Make sure records are accurate and up to date.
- Support health and safety: Ensure health and safety rules are followed.
- Track training needs: Make sure required training is requested and recorded.
- Give technical guidance: Support colleagues with advice and post-inspections.
- Check quality: Help ensure property works are consistent and completed to a good standard.
- Support planned works: Help deliver ad hoc planned replacements.
- Improve services: Use professional insight to support better ways of working.
- Review home improvements: Advise on resident requests and help protect the housing stock.
- Work across teams: Support projects that improve the resident experience.
About You
MTVH is looking for a skilled and practical Surveyor with strong repairs and team management experience.
You should have:
- Team management experience: A proven record of managing a team.
- Repairs experience: Experience resolving complex repairs and maintenance issues.
- Construction knowledge: A strong understanding of housing construction.
- Diagnostic skills: Experience diagnosing building and maintenance issues.
- Schedule of Rates knowledge: A good understanding of the NHF Schedule of Rates.
- Damp and mould knowledge: Strong experience with damp and mould diagnostics.
- HHSRS knowledge: The ability to apply the HHSRS framework well.
- Communication skills: The ability to explain technical issues in plain English.
- Resident focus: A clear focus on practical, resident-friendly solutions.
- Budget awareness: The drive to get repairs right, on time and within budget.
- Collaborative approach: Experience working with technical and non-technical teams.
A Basic DBS check is required once an offer is made. A new check will be completed every three years.
