Description
Balfour Beatty is looking for a Fire Engineer to join its specialist Fire Engineering team within Asset & Technology Solutions.
This is a hands-on role. You will install, maintain and repair fire alarm systems and other fire equipment across Balfour Beatty sites in the UK.
You will work in line with current British and European Standards. You will also follow manufacturer guidance and industry best practice. So yes, standards, paperwork and safety checks. Humanity’s sacred trilogy of compliance.
This role is mainly field based. It will involve UK-wide travel. Staying away from home is rare, but you will need to be flexible when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Install fire systems: Fit fire detection systems and linked fire equipment.
- Maintain equipment: Carry out planned maintenance on fire alarms and related systems.
- Repair faults: Diagnose issues and complete reactive repairs safely and quickly.
- Follow standards: Make sure all work meets industry standards, system requirements and company rules.
- Complete records: Keep paperwork and digital records accurate and up to date.
- Manage equipment: Deliver and collect materials, tools and equipment.
- Support stock control: Help manage basic stock levels.
- Work safely: Prepare and follow risk assessments and method statements.
- Maintain your vehicle: Keep your work vehicle tidy, safe and ready for use.
- Work with teams: Build good relationships with site teams, customers and internal staff.
- Support service quality: Provide a high level of customer service.
- Report safety issues: Raise near misses, unsafe acts and positive safety observations.
- Stay up to date: Keep aware of changes to regulations, standards and best practice.
About You
Balfour Beatty is looking for a practical and self-motivated Fire Engineer with strong fire detection experience.
You should have:
- Fire detection experience: Experience installing, maintaining and fault finding fire detection systems.
- Hands-on skills: Practical industry experience in a similar role.
- Standards knowledge: A strong understanding of current fire safety standards.
- Trade qualifications: Relevant fire trade qualifications.
- Health and safety knowledge: A good working knowledge of health and safety.
- Driving licence: A full, clean UK driving licence.
- Communication skills: The ability to speak clearly with site teams, customers and colleagues.
- Organisation skills: Good planning, record keeping and time management.
- Flexible approach: A proactive attitude and the ability to adapt when needed.
Desirable experience includes:
- BAFE experience: Experience working in a BAFE-accredited organisation.
- Construction knowledge: Knowledge of the construction industry.
- Site cards: CSCS, ECS, IPAF or PASMA cards.
- System knowledge: Experience with EMS Firecell, Cygnus and/or Sitenet.
- Extinguisher experience: Portable extinguisher experience, BAFE accredited.
- Risk assessment: Level 3 Certificate in Risk Assessment.
- Extra trade skills: Electrical, mechanical or other trade experience.
