Description
Balfour Beatty is hiring a Fire Safety Co-ordinator for the Net Zero Teesside project in Redcar and Cleveland.
This role sits within the HS&W team. You will provide advice, guidance, and support on all matters linked to Fire Safety management across the project.
You will help develop and deliver the project fire safety strategy. You will work with the HS&W team, senior leaders, and delivery teams to support legal compliance, good practice, and continuous improvement.
This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to play a key role on a major infrastructure project and help keep people, systems, and processes safe.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead fire safety support: Provide advice, guidance, and support on fire safety matters across the project
- Manage the plan: Develop, review, and update the Project Fire Safety Management Plan
- Support teams: Help project staff understand and carry out their fire safety duties
- Attend meetings: Join HS&W meetings and provide fire safety input
- Maintain site presence: Be visible on site and support coaching and mentoring
- Set standards: Develop and maintain fire safety standards, systems, and procedures
- Review assessments: Check fire risk assessments and audits and support improvement actions
- Work with external partners: Act as the main contact for the local fire service and fire risk assessors
- Support training: Help develop training programmes and competency frameworks
- Review incidents: Investigate fire-related incidents, identify root causes, and support lessons learned
- Monitor providers: Oversee the third-party emergency response provider and check contract performance
- Support the wider business: Represent the business at safety forums and contribute to wider fire safety development

- Experienced: Strong background in fire safety management, advice, and coordination
- Knowledgeable: Good understanding of current fire safety law, standards, and best practice
- Organised: Able to manage plans, reviews, audits, and follow-up actions
- Strong communicator: Comfortable working with site teams, senior leaders, and external partners
- Visible leader: Able to support others through coaching, mentoring, and site engagement
- Improvement focused: Keen to help develop systems, training, and stronger ways of working
- Practical: Able to review incidents, identify causes, and support meaningful improvements
