Description
About the Role
MTVH is looking for an experienced Fire Risk Assessor to join its Compliance Services team.
This is a full-time, permanent role based in Nottingham. The salary is £50,076 - £52,712.
You will work within the Property Directorate and carry out fire risk assessments across MTVH’s housing stock. The role covers non-high-rise homes.
You will also complete audits, inspections and surveys. Your work will help MTVH meet fire safety duties, reduce risk and keep residents safe.
This is a key compliance role. You will need strong technical knowledge, clear judgement and the ability to explain fire risk in a practical way. Sadly, buildings do not become safe because someone wrote “low risk” in a spreadsheet and hoped the universe would cooperate.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete Fire Risk Assessments: Carry out FRAs across MTVH’s housing stock.
- Support full compliance: Help deliver 100% compliance for Fire Risk Assessments across the property portfolio.
- Assess risk clearly: Use strong knowledge of the FRA process to review fire risk as a whole.
- Identify hazards: Make sure risks are found and recorded accurately.
- Recommend actions: Identify suitable remedial works in each assessment.
- Set timeframes: Make sure remedial works match MTVH FRA process timescales.
- Carry out audits: Support audits, inspections and surveys across housing stock.
- Give technical advice: Provide fire safety advice to colleagues where needed.
- Support communication: Explain fire risk and fire safety practice clearly.
- Work with others: Act as a contact point for external organisations on fire safety matters.
- Maintain standards: Support compliance with fire safety law, guidance and internal processes.
About You
MTVH is looking for someone with:
- Fire safety experience: At least 2 years’ experience in the fire safety industry.
- Housing experience: Experience carrying out FRAs in social housing.
- Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of fire safety principles.
- Legal knowledge: Clear understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
- Guidance knowledge: Understanding of relevant fire safety law and guidance documents.
- FRA skills: Strong knowledge of the Fire Risk Assessment process.
- Communication skills: Ability to explain fire risk and good fire safety practice to others.
- Accreditation: Intermediate or Tier 2 accreditation through IFSM as a minimum, or willingness to obtain this before employment.
- Fire qualification: A recognised fire safety qualification, such as NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management, IFE or similar.
- Level 3 FRA qualification: A recognised minimum Level 3 qualification in fire risk assessment, such as FPA, IFE or similar, or registration with a competent FRA body.
- Accuracy: Ability to produce clear and reliable assessments.
- Team working: Ability to work as part of a team of Fire Risk Assessors.

Application Tips
For this Fire Risk role, focus on your FRA experience, social housing work and fire safety qualifications. Give clear examples of assessments you have completed, risks you have identified and remedial works you have recommended. Mention your knowledge of the Fire Safety Order 2005, your IFSM accreditation, and any Level 3 or NEBOSH fire qualifications. Keep your application clear, factual and evidence-led. The hiring team needs proof, not a dramatic retelling of how much you “care about safety”, touching though that may be.
