Description

L&Q is looking for a Strategic Building Safety Project Lead to join its Strategic Building Safety Team.

This is a key role for someone who can combine building safety knowledge with strong project management skills. You will help improve L&Q’s building safety framework and support safer homes for residents.

You will also help build the digital systems and processes needed for long-term safety management. Yes, the phrase “digital infrastructure” has entered the chat, because apparently even safety now needs a dashboard, a workflow and probably twelve spreadsheets.

About L&Q

L&Q is one of the UK’s leading housing associations and developers.

The organisation was founded on a clear belief: good housing is vital to people’s health, security and happiness. Today, around 250,000 people call L&Q properties home.

L&Q works across London, the South East and the North West of England. Its work supports diverse communities and helps provide homes where people can live well.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Building Safety Project Lead, you will help improve systems, processes and ways of working across L&Q.

You will:

  • Lead projects: Manage key building safety improvement projects.
  • Improve systems: Help develop digital tools and infrastructure.
  • Support the Golden Thread: Help make sure building safety information is clear, accurate and easy to access.
  • Embed new processes: Help make building safety part of daily work across the organisation.
  • Support HRBs: Develop systems for Higher-Risk Buildings across L&Q’s portfolio.
  • Advise on Gateways: Provide advice on Gateway applications and building control needs.
  • Use data: Analyse information and produce clear reports.
  • Work with teams: Build strong links with Corporate Health and Safety, Property and Investment, and Customer Services.
  • Influence leaders: Work with senior stakeholders to support change.
  • Improve resilience: Help make L&Q’s safety operations stronger for the long term.
  • Support residents: Keep resident safety at the centre of project decisions.
  • Track progress: Monitor actions, risks and outcomes across key projects.

Building Safety Responsibilities

This Building Safety role will help shape how L&Q manages safety across its higher-risk homes.

You will support better systems, better records and better decision-making. You will also help make sure legal and regulatory duties are embedded across teams.

The role is ideal for someone who likes structure, detail and progress. The thrilling trilogy of project work, because “hoping it sorts itself out” has not yet passed regulatory review.

About You

You will be a proactive project lead with good knowledge of building safety and strong communication skills.

You will bring:

  • Building safety knowledge: A solid understanding of relevant law and regulation.
  • Project skills: Proven experience managing projects and driving delivery.
  • Qualification progress: CIOB Level 6 Diploma in Building Safety Management, or working towards it.
  • Data skills: The ability to analyse data and produce clear reports.
  • Stakeholder skills: Confidence influencing senior leaders and teams.
  • Communication skills: Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Process focus: The ability to design and embed new ways of working.
  • Digital awareness: Interest in systems, records and digital information.
  • Resident focus: A clear commitment to safer homes.
  • Team working: The ability to build strong links across many departments.
  • Planning skills: The ability to manage priorities, risks and deadlines.

Key Building Safety Skills

L&Q is looking for someone with strong skills in:

  • Building safety project delivery
  • Higher-Risk Buildings
  • Golden Thread information
  • Gateway applications
  • Building control requirements
  • Process improvement
  • Digital systems
  • Data analysis
  • Report writing
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Senior influence
  • Risk tracking
  • Change management
  • Resident safety

Why Join L&Q?

This is a strong opportunity to play a part in a high-impact building safety programme.

You will help L&Q improve how it manages Higher-Risk Buildings and safety information. You will also support work that affects residents directly and helps make homes safer.

The role offers a mix of strategy, project work, data, systems and stakeholder engagement. It is not just process for the sake of process, which is a mercy this civilisation does not deserve often enough.

Benefits

L&Q offers a strong benefits package, including:

  • Excellent pension plan
  • Up to 6% double pension contribution
  • 28 days’ annual leave
  • Annual leave rising to 31 days with service
  • Bank holidays
  • Westfield Health Cash Plan
  • Non-contributory life assurance
  • Up to 21 paid volunteering hours
  • Lifestyle benefits
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Hybrid working

Diversity and Inclusion

L&Q is committed to diversity and inclusion.

The organisation is a Disability Confident Leader and has its own Recruitment Advocate scheme. This helps make hiring fair, clear and consistent.

L&Q welcomes people from different backgrounds and focuses on skills, experience and potential.

Sustainability

Sustainability is central to L&Q’s work.

As one of the UK’s largest housing associations, L&Q recognises its responsibility to support better homes, stronger communities and long-term environmental care.

How to Apply

Applications close on 7 May 2026 at 11pm.

Early applications are encouraged, as L&Q may close the advert and interview earlier than stated.

If you need reasonable adjustments at any stage, including the application stage, email lqcareers@lqgroup.org.uk.

Application Tips

Use your application to show clear examples of Building Safety project work.

Focus on project delivery, Golden Thread information, Higher-Risk Buildings, Gateway applications, building control, data analysis and process improvement.

It will also help to show where you have influenced senior stakeholders, worked across teams or improved safety systems. Keep your examples clear, short and linked to real outcomes.
