Description
RLB is hiring an Associate Fire Engineer in Birmingham.
This is a full-time role with hybrid working. It sits in the Built Asset Consultancy team.
You will join a well-established multi-disciplinary team that provides fire safety advice to clients in the public and private sectors. The work covers a wide range of services, including fire engineering, compartmentation surveys, fire quality monitoring, fire remediation project support, fire risk assessments, and Building Safety management.
This role is a strong opportunity for an experienced Fire Engineer who can support technical delivery, manage people, and help grow a fire consultancy service.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and manage teams: Help lead a team of fire consultants
- Provide technical advice: Support the Partner and advise clients on fire safety matters
- Deliver consultancy services: Carry out a wide range of fire consultancy work across different sites
- Support quality and compliance: Help make sure work meets the right standards
- Visit sites: Carry out site visits to provide fire safety advice and services
- Work with authorities: Liaise with enforcing authorities for clients when needed
- Support clients: Provide fire safety guidance, best practice advice, and training
- Help win work: Assist with PQQs, bid documents, and new business activity
- Support service growth: Help develop the Fire Consultancy Service and support financial reporting
About You
- Qualified: Minimum Level 5 qualification in a fire-related subject
- Ideally degree qualified: Engineering-related degree preferred, with IEng or CEng status ideally in place
- Knowledgeable: Strong understanding of UK fire safety legislation
- Experienced: Strong technical delivery background in fire consultancy
- Professionally engaged: Membership of IFE, IFSM, or similar
- Leadership skills: Able to manage complex projects and support team development
- Commercially aware: Experience developing new relationships and helping secure work
- Client focused: Able to build strong long-term client relationships
- Organised: Able to prioritise work and meet deadlines
- Team player: Flexible, motivated, and willing to support others
