Description
Jacobs is looking for an experienced Fire Engineer to support major fire safety design work across the UK and global projects.
This is a senior role with real influence. You will help lead fire safety strategy, support complex projects, and guide a team of engineers. You will also help grow Jacobs’ fire safety capability in the UK.
The role is hybrid, with work split between Jacobs offices, project sites and remote working. The advert lists London, with locations also shown in Manchester and Birmingham. Because apparently one location was too simple for civilisation.
As a Fire Engineer, you will work on fire life safety, fire design engineering, fire safety management and technical assurance. You will support safe, resilient and sustainable buildings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead fire safety design: Support fire engineering strategy across major projects and programmes.
- Manage technical delivery: Help deliver safe and compliant fire engineering solutions.
- Support complex projects: Work on large buildings and building portfolios.
- Guide teams: Mentor engineers and support strong technical performance.
- Advise clients: Build trusted client relationships and support business growth.
- Support bids: Help with bid leadership and work planning.
- Carry out assurance work: Support inspections, audits and fire risk assessments where needed.
- Apply fire safety codes: Use knowledge of UK, Saudi, NFPA, IBC and IFC codes.
About You
You will need:
- Chartered status: CEng MIFireE, or be working towards Chartership. This is essential.
- Professional membership: Membership of a professional body is preferred.
- Fire safety knowledge: Strong design and operational knowledge of fire safety engineering.
- Construction fire safety experience: Experience with large, complex buildings or portfolios.
- Leadership skills: A strong record of leading people, projects or technical work.
- Fire engineering experience: Experience leading fire engineering on complex projects.
- Technical assurance skills: Strong technical knowledge, including assurance in an MEP setting.
- Communication skills: Good negotiation, mentoring and client-facing skills.

Application Tips
For this Fire Engineer role, focus your application on fire safety design, technical assurance and leadership. Give clear examples of complex projects you have supported. Mention your Chartership status, professional memberships and experience with major buildings or portfolios. Keep your CV clear, direct and evidence-based. Sadly, recruiters still cannot read minds, despite years of industry pretending otherwise.
