Description

UK Atomic Energy Authority is looking for a Fire Safety Manager to join its Estates Division at Culham in Oxfordshire.

This is a senior role with a strong focus on compliance, strategy, systems, and team leadership. You will lead fire safety across a complex multi-site estate and act as the main subject matter expert for the organisation.

This is a strong opportunity for someone with deep Fire Safety experience, good technical knowledge, and the ability to lead across specialist facilities and multiple stakeholders.

About the Role

As Fire Safety Manager, you will lead the Fire Safety and Building Security Group within the Estates Compliance and Governance Unit.

You will manage an in-house team and specialist contractors to deliver planned and reactive work across fire safety systems. The role covers sites including Culham, West Burton, Rotherham, Whitehaven, and other locations.

You will help make sure active and passive fire systems are compliant, maintained, and fit for purpose. You will also support fire strategy, risk management, incident investigation, and emergency planning across the estate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main expert and competent person for Fire Safety across UKAEA.
  • Develop and deliver fire safety strategy, policies, and long-term plans.
  • Lead and manage the Fire Safety and Building Security team.
  • Make sure active and passive fire systems are compliant and well maintained.
  • Provide advice on fire prevention, protection, and risk management.
  • Deliver fire safety programmes and projects to time, cost, and quality targets.
  • Lead training, awareness, and culture improvement activity across the organisation.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead incident investigation, lessons learned, and assurance activity.
  • Support emergency preparedness and crisis management planning.

About You

  • Strong experience in Fire Safety, fire engineering, or a similar role.
  • Good knowledge of UK fire safety law, building regulations, and related health and safety legislation.
  • Strong understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, Building Regulations, the Building Safety ActCDM, and DSEAR.
  • Broad technical engineering knowledge across more than one discipline.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Able to influence at different levels of the organisation.
  • Good understanding of how fire safety and building security systems work together.
  • Organised, practical, and able to manage complex priorities.

Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer, or working towards it, with a recognised body such as the Institution of Fire Engineers, or an equivalent qualification in fire engineering.
  • Member-level professional accreditation, such as IFE or IFSM.
  • Relevant fire safety qualifications such as the NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate and passive fire protection certification, or equivalent.
