  • Manage defects: Identify issues and see remedial work through to completion
  • Give technical advice: Act as a lead adviser on compliance matters
  • Prepare specifications: Write technical specifications for contracts and project work
  • Check value for money: Authorise works and assess costs
  • Work with others: Liaise with contractors, colleagues, and external partners to support delivery

About You

  • Qualified: Full qualification and competency in at least one compliance area, such as gas, electrical, fire safety, asbestos, water hygiene, or heating
  • Experienced: Able to spot defects in building services during site inspections
  • Knowledgeable: Good understanding of landlord duties, health and safety law, and compliance in housing and corporate property
  • Practical: Experience managing defects and remedial works through to completion
  • Digitally confident: Comfortable using Microsoft Office, asset systems, and compliance systems
  • Organised: Able to manage more than one workstream at a time
  • Mobile: Full UK driving licence and use of a vehicle for work, or the ability to reach sites just as quickly

Desirable qualifications and experience:

  • Gas Safe Accreditation

  • 2382 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate
  • HNC, HND, or similar qualification in a relevant subject
  • Public sector or social housing experience

How to Apply

Apply online if you have the right compliance knowledge and building inspection experience.

The successful applicant will need to complete a Basic DBS check as part of pre-employment checks.

Dover District Council says interviews are to be confirmed. It may interview and appoint during the recruitment period, so early applications are encouraged. The interview will be question-based.

For an informal discussion, the advert says you can contact jenny.becket@dover.gov.uk.

Application Tips

Focus on your compliance discipline, inspection experience, and ability to manage defects through to completion. Use clear examples that show site visits, technical judgement, contractor management, and how you have helped improve compliance and value for money.
