Description
Look Ahead is looking for a Head of Compliance and Building Safety.
This is a full-time role. You will work 35 hours per week. The role is based in Islington.
You will lead the strategic management and delivery of Look Ahead’s compliance services. This includes Building Safety, fire safety, gas safety, water hygiene, lift safety, electrical safety and asbestos management.
You will make sure statutory and regulatory duties are met. You will also help services run to a high standard, with a strong focus on quality, value and customer safety.
This is a senior Compliance role. You will lead teams, manage contracts, report to senior groups and give expert advice across Look Ahead.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Compliance and Building Safety team.
- Oversee statutory compliance across key safety areas.
- Manage Building Safety, fire, gas, water, lift, electrical and asbestos compliance.
- Lead compliance inspections, testing and remedial works.
- Make sure programmes are delivered on time.
- Manage service contracts and contractor performance.
- Support value for money and quality service delivery.
- Act as the lead reporting officer to external bodies.
- Report to the Regulator of Social Housing and MHCLG where needed.
- Develop and apply policies and inspection programmes.
- Support work linked to the Building Safety Act.
- Monitor health and safety standards across sites.
- Manage budgets, procurement and contract delivery.
- Support financial accountability and risk management.
- Work with residents, colleagues and external partners.
- Give expert Compliance and Building Safety advice.
- Lead compliance and fire safety meetings.
- Report updates to committees and the Board.
- Support audit readiness and clear records.
- Promote safeguarding, equality and data protection.
- Drive continuous improvement and professional development.
About You
- Strong experience leading Compliance and Building Safety services.
- Good knowledge of statutory landlord compliance.
- Good knowledge of fire safety, gas, water hygiene, lifts, electrical safety and asbestos.
- Strong contract management experience.
- Able to manage inspections, testing and remedial work programmes.
- Able to manage budgets and procurement.
- Confident giving assurance reports to senior leaders.
- Able to report to committees or boards.
- Strong people leadership skills.
- Able to coach and develop teams.
- Able to work with residents and stakeholders.
- Able to manage contractor disputes and performance issues.
- Good knowledge of data, records and audit requirements.
- Able to identify non-compliance and take corrective action.
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- Committed to safe homes and customer-focused services.
Desirable experience includes:
- Recognised qualification in building construction.
- Chartered IOSH membership.
- Property or building-related membership such as MCIOB, MRICS, BIFM or MIFSM.
- Health and safety qualification.
- Building-related degree.
- Knowledge of schedule of rates and measurement methods.
- Experience with True Compliance.
