Description

City of London Corporation is looking for a Technical Officer to join its new Private Sector Housing and Building Safety Team.

This is a permanent, full-time role. You will work 35 hours per week. The role is hybrid and based at Guildhall.

The team sits within Port Health and Public Protection. It will help strengthen private sector housing enforcement and Building Safety work in the City of London.

As Technical Officer, you will provide high-quality administration, coordination and customer support. You will help the service run well and keep records accurate.

You will support housing safety work, compliance reporting and Building Safety activity. You will work with residents, landlords, contractors, internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Housing and Building Safety service.
  • Act as a key contact for the team.
  • Manage shared inboxes.
  • Handle enquiries and complaints.
  • Coordinate inspections and site visits.
  • Support multi-agency meetings.
  • Keep electronic and paper records up to date.
  • Support service strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain housing safety records in IDOX Uniform.
  • Support performance reports and dashboards.
  • Support statutory returns.
  • Help maintain data quality and data integrity.
  • Gather and organise evidence.
  • Draft enforcement letters for review.
  • Draft statutory notices for review.
  • Prepare witness statements or case summaries under supervision.
  • Support contact with residents and stakeholders.
  • Liaise with housing providers, London Fire Brigade, Building Control bodies and the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Help coordinate joint inspections and safety initiatives.

About You

  • Strong interest in regulatory services, housing compliance and public protection.
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Health or a similar subject, or working towards one.
  • Relevant Level 4 qualification, or working towards one.
  • Knowledge of housing and environmental health law.
  • Understanding of housing, compliance or safety administration.
  • Awareness of Building Safety, fire safety or housing standards workflows.
  • Good written communication skills.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Able to prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Able to support witness statements and advisory documents.
  • Experience supporting environmental health casework.
  • Experience supporting inspections or enforcement would be useful.
  • Experience using property databases such as Uniform would be useful.
  • Knowledge of PACE and service of notices would be useful.
  • Able to communicate well at all levels.
  • Experience handling housing complaints would be useful.
  • Able to interpret large volumes of data.
  • Customer contact experience would be useful.
  • Presentation skills would be useful.
