Places for People is looking for a Technical Officer to support repairs, maintenance and capital works across the South of England.

The role is known internally as Contract Lead. You will not be based from one fixed office. You will need to be based in the South of England and able to travel for the role.

This is a key role in the delivery of building works. You will manage contractor activity from start to finish. This will include repairs, maintenance and capital component upgrade projects.

You will review scopes of work, request quotes, arrange pre-start meetings and solve site issues. You will also complete post-inspections and help make sure works meet safety, budget and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contract management: Manage building works through the contractor framework.
  • Repairs and maintenance: Support repairs, maintenance and capital upgrade projects.
  • Scopes of work: Review scopes, specifications and project requirements.
  • Quotes: Request and review quotes from contractors.
  • Pre-start meetings: Arrange and attend meetings before work starts.
  • Site issues: Provide practical solutions to issues on site.
  • Post-inspections: Check completed works and confirm quality.
  • CDM compliance: Manage works in line with CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Health and safety: Help make sure works are delivered safely.
  • Performance: Monitor contractor performance against SLAs and KPIs.
  • Budgets: Support budget control and value for money.
  • Technical advice: Give guidance on refurbishments and maintenance contracts.
  • Asset meetings: Contribute to Asset Management meetings.
  • Improvement: Make recommendations to improve service delivery.

About You

You should have:

  • Driving licence: A valid driving licence.
  • Works experience: Experience supervising and monitoring works to domestic and commercial properties.
  • Contractor management: Experience managing contractors and service quality.
  • Performance management: Experience managing SLAs, KPIs, compliance and budgets.
  • Programme management: Experience managing works programmes.
  • CDM knowledge: Experience working within CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Customer focus: A strong customer service background.
  • Improvement focus: A passion for continuous improvement.
  • Technical background: Experience as a Technical Officer, building surveyor, building inspector or contracts manager would be useful.
  • Trade background: A relevant trade background may also be suitable.
  • Qualification route: A postgraduate background in quantity surveying or building surveying may also fit this role.
